Everything is Fair in Love and War, Is it so ?
I use to listen this proverb from time to time, from many quarters. Keeping in mind to get a right approach on this devastating thought, I,,, decided to meet Mr. Vivek Kumar Vivek – An intellectual of our locality. Mr. Vivek by no means can be called as an Intellectual, since he doesn’t possess any higher Academic qualification. But it is his logic and reasoning that makes him a different person from others.
When I met him, he was free to discuss. I placed my question before him. After listening my question, He said, in my opinion, I don’t subscribe the Idea that Everything is Fair in Love and War. The simple reason behind my No lies in the fact that every profession or human act is governed by certain humafor values. So as a matter of principle, no place is reserved for perverse thought or culture. For instance, take a Case of any profession be it be s Medical Profession, Law Profession, everywhere, you will find, these are governed by human values. Although, there is a widespread violation of Professional Values too, but that doesn’t replace the Concept of Professional Values.
Now let us take the case of Love. Love is generally considered as a matter of higher human values, in which No Foul plays a desirable. It is generally based on mutual love and trust. Then, how an perverse thought , Everything is Fair in Love and War can get, justification in this concept. Gross violation of these values Is the order of the day but that doesn’t alter concept of Love
In the same way, if you will analyse the applicability of this perverse thought in war, then you will find the hollowness of this thought. In case of War, there are worldwide accepted War Norms which are to be followed by war engulfed Nations.
What do you think about the origin of thought? I think this might be an attempt to rationalize the misdeed of the people. But I don’t say, the people using this phraseology are those engaged in misdeeds. It might be possible they may be using this phraseology unknowingly.
